Kartäuserkirche

Even today, when observing the Karthäuserkirche, the late-medieval character of the building complex can still be recognised.

Milestones
1334	The Carthusians established themselves in Cologne, the home of their founder, St. Bruno
1393	The church built in the order's Gothic style was consecrated in the name of St. Barbara
15th century	The »Engels and Marienkapelle« was added to the Northern part of the church
1945	The »Karthäuserkirche« was rebuilt following the Second World War

The two united chapels are of architectural interest which, from outside, have the effect of being an aisle. In the northern part, the former »Marienkapelle«, artistically valuable sculptures are to be found. An artistically intricate, painted star-ribbed vault is to be found by the visitor in the eastern part of the church. The Church of St. Barbara and the Carthusian monastery are today owned by the Protestant Church.
