Christopher Street Day (CSD)

In July, almost a tradition, gays and lesbians from all over Europe wildly celebrate their »Christopher Street Day« in Cologne; over 750,000 people are on the streets for this event.

Since 1991, the Christopher Street Day (CSD) has been held annually on the first weekend in July, in Cologne's city centre which is ablaze with rainbow-coloured flags. The CSD, expression of lesbian-gay joie de vivre, is the third largest event in Cologne and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors. 750,000 alone last year, celebrated the CSD Parade under brilliant blue skies. For six hours, a total of 40,000 singing, dancing and laughing participants with 120 floats paraded over five kilometres in the city centre. 400,000 visitors from near and far enthusiastically celebrated the two-day street party with benefit appearances of more than 200 international artists.

In 2002 Cologne organized the Europride, the European CSD. Europride was totally dedicated to the motto of the musical message »Building a bridge across the nations over the seas, living together as one«.
