The private banking house Sal. Oppenhein jr. & Cie. has had its head office in Cologne for more than 200 years. The independent private bank is one of the leading banks in the investment sector in Europe with over 20 agencies all over the world.

But Sal. Oppenheim jr. & Cie are still involved in the financing of most expecting projects in the cathedral city, such as, for example, the Lanxess Arena.

Long banking tradition

Cologne’s top position as a metropolis of service provision is demonstrated by the particular concentration of highly efficient companies in the city. Today, more than 60 national and international banking houses are represented in Cologne.

The »Sparkasse KölnBonn« was founded more than 175 years ago (1826) and is the largest financial institution in Cologne and one of the largest »Sparkassen« in Germany. There is hardly any important town-planning, economic, political or cultural project in the cathedral city in which the Sparkasse KölnBonn has not been involved, in either a financial or advisory capacity. So it initiated und finances the Cologne Science Center, an offspring of the expo 2.000.
The Sparkasse KölnBonn regards its most important task today as being above all in the promotion of future-orientated developments. To this end the Sparkasse KölnBonn is a co-proprietor of Cologne’s telecommunications company NetCologne, whose City telecommunications network is regarded as the state-of-the-art in terms of the whole of Europe.

The local savings Bank (Kreissparkassse) in Cologne, likewise a co-proprietor of NetCologne, is likewise one the modern banks of the Cologne citizens, as does the Cologne Bank. This has particular close links with the small trading companies in Cologne.
