International & Language Schools
Cologne is an international city. Whether you decide to learn a foreign language or you move to the city from abroad, language barriers soon don't matter anymore thanks to a large number of international and language schools. In no other region of Germany there are more and more diverse education facilities than here.
International Schools
International learning opportunities are probably the best evidence of how cosmopolitan Cologne really is. These are aimed not only at people born in Cologne but primarily families with international backgrounds. Anyone who comes from abroad to live and work in Cologne can be sure that their children can be educated in their native language with the familiar curriculum.
The St. Georges International School has been teaching pupils in German and English with a British curriculum for already 20 years and offers the International Baccalaureat Diploma (IB) which is similar to A-levels. There is, meanwhile, an increasing number of British full-day schools in Cologne and Bonn which are aimed at both school beginners and offer further education for older pupils. The right address for French primary school pupils is the Ecole de Gaulle Adenauer in Bonn. In Cologne, the Turkish-German Academic Association runs Dialog, a private grammar school, and, only 40 kilometres away in Düsseldorf, the International Japanese School even offers teaching according to the Japanese model.
Even the smallest children are well looked after in the Rhineland thanks to a dense network of international kindergartens and day nurseries. Parents who would like their children integrated into the German school system but do not want them to miss out on their native language, can choose from one of many bilingual schools in the region, for example the German-Italian Montessori Centre in Cologne or the Bonn-Beuel integrated comprehensive school which also offers Chinese as a subject.
Language Schools
Berlitz School and Linguarama offer day and evening courses at all levels according to choice. Eurozentrum Köln offers Intensive- and holiday language courses at all levels according to fixed dates.
